Dear Evan Hansen, the 2017 multiple Tony Award winning production including “Best Musical”, encapsulates the groundbreaking message of the importance of acceptance. It has audiences of all ages in tears of both joy and sadness as they follow Evan Hansen (played by Ben Platt) on his journey to find himself, to find acceptance and simply to “fit in” with the others at his high school. His single mother (played by Rachel Bay Jones) tries to navigate parenting Evan, a teenager who suffers from anxiety and other social pressures.
It is after Evan’s friend, Connor Murphy (played by Mike Faist), takes his own life that Evan finds himself caught in a lie. It is with this lie that Evan ends up becoming noticed by others and thinks he is “found”. During this time, Evan also finds himself falling in love with Connor’s younger sister, Zoe (played by Laura Dreyfuss).
Dear Evan Hansen, through its story and powerful music and lyrics, brings to light the importance of accepting others and embracing our differences. This amazing show exemplifies how recognizing those around you can make a positive contribution to the lives of others. Dear Evan Hansen is the MUST SEE MUSICAL of the year!
